Workshop on Spacecraft Flight Software (FSW-08) November 13-14, 2008 Laurel, MD, USA

With the advent of faster processors and advanced hardware architectures, the modern spacecraft is highly reliant upon flight software for mission success.  Software is integral to many subsystems ranging from power to propulsion to instrument operations.  Additionally, spacecraft developers are moving beyond providing only infrastructure and into creating applications that can revolutionize how these vehicles are operated and how data are processed on-board.

The Baltimore Chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL) invite those involved in all facets of the flight software lifecycle to the Second Annual Workshop on Spacecraft Flight Software (FSW-08).  The workshop will take place on November 13-14, 2008 at the JHU/APL campus in Laurel, Maryland.  This workshop provides an opportunity to present current flight architectures, novel approaches to mission solutions, and techniques for flight software development in an informal and open setting and facilitate communication across organizations and agencies.  The following is a list of potential subject areas:

* Flight software engineering and testing
* Autonomy (including navigation, fault handling, and command sequence control)
* On-board communication
* Space network protocols
* On-board data processing
* Software modeling, simulation and testbeds
* Spacecraft software architectures
* Guidance and control
* Spacecraft processors
* Planning and tasking
* Lessons learned

The deadline for abstract submission is August 1, 2008.   In keeping with the informal setting and to allow for late breaking additions, this is a presentation only workshop.  No papers are required, although they will be accepted for distribution to fellow attendees. To register or to submit an abstract, click on the appropriate link above.

FSW-08 will occur at Kossiakoff Center at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, MD.  Further directions as well as information on accommodations can be found on the JHU/APL
website.
